Portfolio Positioning
The Latin America Portfolio remains fully invested across six positions, split between Brazil (4) and Mexico (2). The portfolio spans consumer discretionary (Smartfit), logistics (Localiza, Rumo), financials (Banco do Brasil), airports (PAC), and materials (Cemex). This diversification provides exposure to both domestic consumption and infrastructure-driven growth across the region.
Recent Performance Drivers
Banco do Brasil (BDORY) has been the standout performer, up 8.0% since its July 18 pick, likely supported by strong dividend yields and improving credit conditions. Localiza (LZRFY) has declined 6.4% since its June 20 pick, reflecting ongoing pressure on car rental demand and higher fleet costs. Cemex (CX) is down 1.5% since its July 31 pick, in line with global construction sentiment. PAC and Rumo are essentially flat, while Smartfit has not yet generated meaningful price movement.
Risk Concentration
The portfolio has a moderate concentration in Brazil (67% of positions), which is appropriate for a Latin America mandate. However, the logistics sector is overweighted with two positions (Localiza and Rumo), exposing the portfolio to transportation and fuel price volatility. The Mexican holdings (PAC and Cemex) provide some geographic diversification, but both are sensitive to US trade policy and infrastructure spending.
What to Watch Next
Key indicators include Brazilian CPI and central bank rate decisions, which will impact consumer and credit-sensitive names. For Mexico, watch airport passenger traffic and cement demand data. Also monitor global commodity prices, as they affect Rumo and Cemex. Any significant deterioration in these factors could prompt a reassessment of individual positions.
Position Review
All six positions are within their minimum holding periods (protected), and none have experienced a thesis-breaking event. Therefore, no closures are recommended this week. We will continue to monitor each holding for signs of fundamental deterioration or valuation overextension.
