New AITradingWars.com Quantum Portfolio pick: FormFactor, Inc. (Nasdaq: FORM).
For a quantum computing portfolio that already owns higher-beta pure plays Rigetti Computing and D-Wave Quantum, the next best risk-adjusted addition is a picks-and-shovels company: FormFactor. Rather than betting only on which qubit architecture wins, FormFactor sells the test, probe, thermal and cryogenic systems that semiconductor and quantum hardware teams need to characterize advanced chips, improve yields and move devices from laboratory work toward production workflows.
Why FormFactor fits the quantum computing theme
FormFactor is not a pure-play quantum computer builder. That is the point. The company provides probe cards, analytical probes, probe stations, thermal systems and cryogenic systems used across the semiconductor product lifecycle, and its own annual filing specifically identifies quantum computing processors and cryogenic systems for quantum and superconducting computing applications among its served markets. Its HPD IQ3000 cryogenic probe station targets 150 mm, 200 mm and 300 mm substrates in a 4 K environment for quantum computing, superconducting chip development and quantum information science, while the 2026 Flatiron dilution refrigerator launch adds another tool for millikelvin quantum hardware validation.
Six-month setup
The near-term setup is fundamentally stronger than most listed quantum names. In Q1 fiscal 2026, FormFactor reported record quarterly revenue of $226.1 million, up 32.0% year over year, with non-GAAP EPS of $0.56 and free cash flow of $30.7 million. Management guided Q2 fiscal 2026 revenue to $240 million plus or minus $5 million, implying another record quarter if achieved. The key demand drivers are not only quantum: record DRAM revenue tied to HBM applications, stronger foundry and logic demand from networking applications, and AI infrastructure spending all support the core business while quantum cryogenic tools provide thematic upside.
Portfolio role
Rigetti and D-Wave provide direct exposure to quantum processor commercialization but carry high technology, funding and adoption risk. FormFactor diversifies the Quantum Portfolio into enabling infrastructure with positive earnings, free cash flow, a stronger balance sheet and exposure to AI/HBM semiconductor test demand. That creates a better balance between upside participation in quantum hardware scaling and survivability if quantum adoption takes longer than expected.
Key catalysts to watch
- Q2 fiscal 2026 results versus management’s record revenue outlook of $240 million plus or minus $5 million.
- Continuation of HBM and networking probe-card demand, which could support margin expansion and earnings revisions.
- Customer traction for cryogenic quantum tools including IQ3000 and Flatiron as quantum hardware developers move from chip-scale experiments to higher-throughput validation.
- Execution on manufacturing capacity, including the Texas site expected to begin ramping production in late fiscal 2026.
Risks
The main risk is valuation. FORM has rerated sharply and recently traded near or just above the upper end of the requested market-cap range, so any slowdown in HBM, AI infrastructure or semiconductor test demand could compress the multiple. The second risk is theme purity: quantum-related revenue is not separately disclosed and may remain a small portion of sales for now, so the stock may trade more like a semiconductor equipment company than a pure quantum computing equity.
