The Robotics Portfolio ended the week with mixed results. Cognex Corporation (CGNX) rose 4.48% since its pick, supported by strong demand for machine vision in electronics and logistics. Kuka AG (MBGAF) edged up 0.97%, benefiting from its exposure to automotive automation. However, Yaskawa Electric (YASKY) plunged 30.04% from its entry, driven by weak quarterly earnings and a cautious outlook for industrial robots in China. Teradyne (TER) fell 26.21%, pressured by a semiconductor equipment downturn and reduced guidance. AutoStore (AUTSF) declined 7.14%, while Nabtesco (NCTKF) and Fanuc (FANUY) slipped 1.35% and 6.80%, respectively. ATS Corporation (ATS) was flat.
The portfolio remains heavily weighted toward Japanese robotics (Yaskawa, Fanuc, Nabtesco) and US automation (Cognex, Teradyne, ATS). This concentration poses risks if the global factory automation cycle weakens further. However, long-term secular drivers—labor shortages, reshoring, and AI-driven automation—support the theme. All positions are within their minimum holding periods and no thesis has been invalidated. We will monitor Yaskawa and Teradyne for signs of recovery or further deterioration.
